On “The Daily Show” recently, Jon Stewart grilled Mike Huckabee about a TV ad in which Huckabee urged voters to support “biblical values” at the voting box.

When Huckabee said that he supported the “biblical model of marriage,” Stewart shot back that “the biblical model of marriage is polygamy.”

And there’s a big problem, Stewart went on, with reducing “biblical values” to one or two social issues such as abortion and gay marriage, while ignoring issues such as poverty and immigration reform.

It may come as some surprise that as an evangelical Christian, I cheered Stewart on from my living room couch.

87-year-old doctor still charges $5 a visit

At 87 years young, Dr. Russell Dohner has discovered the key to a life well lived: serving God by serving others. The good doctor doesn’t accept medical insurance, only charges $5 per visit and has remained in high demand since 1955. Even as he inches closer to the century mark, Dr. Dohner still makes rounds at the hospital at sunrise before unlocking the doors to his practice for those in need. That’s awesome.

Brooke Burke-Charvet revealed she’s battling thyroid cancer via The ModernMom’s YouTube channel on Thursday.

The “Dancing with the Stars” host had remained mum after writing in July that she had a nodule on her thyroid biopsied. In the YouTube video, she said she needed time to wrap her head around the news, but that she wanted people to find out directly from her.

This Just In

[Updated at 8:45 p.m. ET] An Egyptian-American man behind the inflammatory film “Innocence of Muslims” on Wednesday was sentenced to one year in federal prison after admitting to violating the terms of his probation from a 2010 bank fraud case.

Mark Basseley Youssef also was ordered to serve four years of supervised release after his prison term. The sentencing by Judge Christina Snyder came in a Los Angeles federal court after a hearing Wednesday in which Youssef admitted using an alias, which prosecutors said violated his probation.
