The light is growing dimmer.
When our behavior mirrors the society we hold to task, judgment is definitely near.
In Indiana, the pastor of a 15,000 member megachurch was removed from his position after having an affair with a 16 (now 17) year old girl. The only reason statutory rape charges will not be filed is 16 is the age of consent in Indiana.
Right is right. Wrong is wrong. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the pews or in the club. None of us are beyond reproach. As my dad says, “if not for the grace of God, there-go I as well.”
What has happened to us?
In America, we are the church of Laodicea. We are neither hot nor cold. We are the salt that has lost its flavor. As the good book says regarding King David’s affair and murderous love triangle, this sin has given cause for people to tarnish the name of God.
It hurts my heart. Christian or not, it’s hard walking in the spirit so as not to fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Believe me, I know. And repentance and forgiveness must occur. But the underlying damage is done. So often, it’s hard for it ever to become undone.
I guess my biggest worry is that this sort of things happens so frequently in the church now that it doesn’t surprise anymore. That is truly a sign of the times we are living in…
